Happy Mother’s Day
This mother’s day we draw attention to our concerns for mothers.
As a society until we value childbearing, acknowledging that a woman having a baby provides a community good at significant personal cost, nothing will change. With so much resting on a mother’s shoulders, it is vital she is given the support she needs for her wellbeing so she can to care for her family and children.
Life changes around pregnancy make women vulnerable. The lack of appropriate maternity care and social supports impact on a mother’s ability to function and thrive, with long-lasting physical, cognitive and emotional outcomes. Evidenced based maternity care provides the necessary support to empower women to achieve her well-being, enhancing her resilience to challenging life circumstances and support s her to nurture her children optimally.
We at MHM are convinced that strengthening primary health models of maternity care linked to the social determinants is the most inclusive, effective and appropriate way to enhance pregnant women’s physical, and mental health, as well as social well-being.
Caring for mothers is a positive intervention for the long-term benefit of our community.
